What is hair loss?

We lose an average of 100 hairs daily throughout our lives, while the number of fallen hair changes from person to person. After the hairs fall out, regrowth is possible within 8-10 weeks. Hereditary factors, diet, stress, habits, and hormones can trigger hair loss. The loss of hair can be permanent or temporary depending on the specific cases.

Causes of hair loss?

The most common cause is a hereditary factor called Androgenic Alopecia. This type of local hair loss is most prevalent among males, and rare among females. In this male pattern loss of hair, the earlier the loss starts the thinner the hair gets. The cause of hair loss is the inherited genes that cause the hair follicles to shrink. The shrinkage of the follicles starts during adolescence. Some dermal diseases like ‘Liken Planus’ may also cause permanent hair loss. Lastly, hair loss develops in those who pick their hairs due to stress, and in pregnant due to hormonal changes.

Is regrowth possible?

With the correct treatment methods, the hair loss can be stopped or slowed down, allowing the hair to grow again.
