What is Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a disease, where white patches emerge on the skin, that can affect any age group. The spots develop afterward in the form of patches of different sizes on any area of the skin. Vitiligo, commonly happening on the face, hands, arms, and legs, also psychologically disturbs the patients.
The disease typically starts as pale patches on the skin, initially causing no severe discomfort like pain or itching.
What causes Vitiligo?
The exact cause of Vitiligo is unknown. Actually, there is little known about the causes of this centuries-old disease, although it has been actively seen since the archaic age. Vitiligo is caused by the lack of melanocyte cells that produce melanin –the pigment in skin- which causes the skin to turn pale. It is common among those with family stories of Vitiligo.
How is it treated?
Vitiligo treatment aims to cure the cells with pale colors. After a comprehensive examination, a treatment process is planned. Medications such as topical creams, phototherapy, or some other forms of medication are used to turn the affected cells into their natural colors. Besides, patients must avoid the sun.
